Ableton Live 12 is a dynamic music production and performance software that is renowned for its speed and adaptability. It provides a diverse range of effects, instruments, sounds, and creative features, allowing you to produce music in any genre you desire.

With Live 12, you can utilise the extensive collection of instruments and effects to craft your own unique sound, or mix and match curated Packs to produce a distinctive creation. The software's real-time capabilities and full adjustability make it ideal for live performances and interactive use, regardless of your setup.

Ableton Live 12 comes with a variety of new features that enhance its capabilities.

MIDI Generators and Transformations allow you to simulate a guitar strumming effect, link consecutive notes and chords, apply acceleration and deceleration curves, and incorporate ornaments and articulations. You can use MIDI generators to generate innovative and whimsical ideas that you can then expand upon and develop independently. Additionally, Live 12 offers enhanced Max for Live Generators and Transformations to further enhance your capabilities.

Sound Similarity helps you find similar sounds and instrument or drum settings. You can begin with a sample and employ a range of efficient machine learning methods to train Live's browser to identify them. Alternatively, you can use Drum Rack's or Simpler's Sound Similarity tool to locate and substitute equivalent samples.

Live 12 also features System Optimisation, which allows you to utilise alternative tuning systems and MPE-compatible gear or plugins with Live's devices in your desired tuning.

The Music Theory section offers Scales and Keys, which enable you to adjust or elaborate on concepts within the chosen scale, or synchronise the MIDI device scale with the audio clip being played.

Recent technological advancements include Live's new saturation and colouring effect, Roar, which enables you to create a diverse array of sounds, ranging from high-quality warmth suitable for mastering to unpredictable and intense sound distortion. Meld's twin sound engines allow you to experiment with various timbres and textures. Granulator III, the latest version of Robert Henke's granular synthesis device, allows for far more expression compared to other options.

Enhancements to the MIDI Editor allow you to innovate MIDI in unique ways, use your mouse and keyboard to segment a message into many portions or halve it, connect a group of notes, or allocate them to span a particular duration. You can access additional tools such as Fit Scale, Humanise, Add Intervals, and more from the Note Utilities panel.

Enhancements to Workflow include Device Views and Clip Views in Layer Lives to expand your visibility of track activities. You can utilise Live's Mixer in Arrangement View to access additional information and control without disrupting the workflow by switching to Session View. You can also discover new sounds and rediscover old ones by using the browser's search history and the new tagging system. Additionally, a track can be flattened and frozen simultaneously.

Enhancements to accessibility and navigation allow visually impaired artists to utilise crucial Live workflows and new keyboard shortcuts to access almost every part of the application. Individuals with disabilities can access screen readers and other assistive technology.

About Ableton Live

Live offers the necessary tools for capturing ideas and exploring new concepts. The synthesizers offer a wide range of sounds through wavetable, FM, subtractive, granular, analogue, and physical modelling architectures. The Core Library included in every Live edition contains vintage synths, analogue drum machines, keys, multi-sampled drums, and other instruments.

On stage, you can perform, rearrange, and mix your music live using adaptable MIDI mapping to customise nearly any feature of Live for manual control with your controller. You can utilise a maximum of 16 Macro knobs to manipulate various settings when crafting your own distinct combinations of instruments and effects. Create and save your preferred settings as macro snapshots to easily generate builds, drops, and instant variations during performances.

Live also allows you to Link to any MIDI controller, including MPE-compatible devices, to incorporate bends, slides, and pressure on individual chord notes, modify delicate expressions, and utilise your hands to create intricate audio compositions. Expand your configuration by utilising Ableton Link, a Live functionality that synchronises several devices over a network connection. It is easy to use with other music software such as Reason, Serato, and a growing variety of iOS apps and Link-enabled gear.
