The SQ-1 supports the Hz/V standard method of controlling the pitch which offers greater stability than most other sequencers that use the V/Oct standard method, however the V/Oct is still supported while the voltage level of the CV output and gate output polarity can be specified for the device you’ve connected, this versatility allows you to control a broad range of synthesisers. The sequencer provides you with two CV/Gate output channels with standard MIDI Out and USB MIDI outputs as well as a Littlebits output for connecting Littlebits synthesiser kits and a Sync In/Out channel that lets you connect to the Volca range of synthesisers and sound modules. The SQ-1 is ideal as a hardware sequencer thanks to the compact design and professional functions and controls.
The SQ-1 sequencer offers two channels (A + B) of 8-step sequencer that can be operated consecutively, separately, or in a variety of other modes. Channels A and B can be run after one another which makes the unit work as a 16-step sequencer, or can completely ignore the order and make your steps play randomly, or use A and B to control different parameters as they run in parallel of each other. You can generate simple sequences to complex changes with a variety of modes available to suit your exact needs.
The two channels of 8-step buttons can be utilised to turn notes on/off while a Mode button lets you switch up their function which opens up a whole new world of possibilities such as letting you perform on the sequencer itself, just like on a Volca unit. The active step function enables you t skip steps half-way through a sequence while step jump means you can instantly play the step you just pressed for generating irregular rhythms and effects that are similar to short loops. A slide function produces a glide/portamento effect which connects steps smoothly and is an easy way for you to create an acid bassline.
The compact design and sturdy body of the SQ-1 is constructed from super-robust sheet metal that is perfect for traveling with and can comfortably fit inside of your travel bag or flight case. The device can be run off of two AA batteries or USB bus power for ease of use.
