The all new Pioneer XDJ-RX3 is a 2-channel, all-in-one DJ system crammed with new features, including the 10.1-inch touchscreen and Release FX. Alongside these new additions, selected features from the club-standard CDJ-3000 multi-player and DJM-900NXS2 mixer have been adopted, including an intuitive layout, browse section, Beat FX and Sound Colour FX.
The DJ System is easily portable, making it the preferred option for parties and events. However, it is equally ideal for use at home, providing an excellent basis for practising, getting used to a club-standard layout and controls, making transferring to a club a breeze.
The new 10.1-inch touchscreen is the largest display on any of the Pioneer DJ all-in-one DJ systems. In addition, it has a high resolution, more than on its predecessor, the RX2, which ensures everything is super clear to see. It also features an all-new interface that makes browsing music and controlling effects faster and more straightforward, including the intuitive navigation within the browse section, which has been selected from the CDJ-3000.
Browsing has never been quicker thanks to the new Playlist Bank feature, where from a single touch, you can quickly access your top 4 favourite playlists. There is also Touch Preview, where you can listen to any part of a track without loading it to the deck.
Accurate mixing can be achieved with a bit of help from Phrase Display which shows the structure of each track, e.g., Intro, Chorus or Bridge using the rekordbox Phrase Analysis feature. If preferred, the structure can even be displayed as a waveform, providing a visual representation of how the track progresses.
Another accuracy indicator is in the form of the 3Band Waveform support feature. It has been derived from the CDJ3000 and is where volume levels of different frequency ranges provide a more precise visual representation through different colours. The 3Band Waveform is in addition to the previous options of RGB and Blue.
Performance pad modes can be seen on the advanced display screen via the new Pad status display. You can switch between pad status, Beat FX and X-Pad, from the advanced touchscreen with one touch. This is a first where X-Pad is featured on a touchscreen on an all-in-one DJ System. These advanced features, which aim to produce complex sounds, have been made simple.
There are a couple of helpful features worth mentioning regarding the touchscreen display. First, there is a handy Countdown Timer which can be used to count down to a specified point in your set and Repeat Mode, where a track or playlist can play on repeat, meaning there will always be music should you need to step away from the DJ System or booth. This Repeat feature is convenient for sound checks!
On-jog display is available with the RX3, where an LCD screen is located in the centre of each jog wheel that displays vital stats such as track, BPM or artwork. In addition, the indication on the jog wheel of the playhead position and the wheel rotation responsiveness has been enhanced compared to its predecessor. There is also a handy Feeling Adjust Control where you can adjust the ‘weight’ of each jog wheel to feel exactly how you would like it to feel.
There are numerous performance-related controls on the XDJRX3, including 14 Beat FX and 6 Sound Colour FX, adopted from the DJM-900NXS2. All effects from the RX2 are still present, with six extra Beat FX and two additional Sound Colour FX added. Now included within the 14 Beat FX are Filter, Helix, Ping Pong, Phaser, Vinyl Brake and Slip Roll, and within the 6 Sound Colour FX are Crush and Space.
Release FX is a new feature added to the all-in-one unit where new energy can be injected into performances via the Performance Pads. There are eight effect types: Backspin (Short/Long), Vinyl Brake (Short/Long), Build Up, Ducking, Mute and Echo Out.
The USB drivers on the RX3 can be used for playing rekordbox analysed tracks from USB connected storage devices via Export mode, or if you choose to, you can connect a laptop to unlock rekordbox performance mode or Link Export (via USB-HID control). As the XDJ-RX3 is a Hardware Unlock Device, Performance Mode can be used for free and that a paid subscription is not required. As a result, when your laptop is connected, all the rekordbox tracks in your library can be used alongside all the free features in the Core plan. It is worth noting that free plug-and-play compatibility support for Serato DJ Pro is also included and due in early 2022.
The RX3 produces exceptional sounding audio, which is clear, precise and natural sounding thanks to an integrated system design (decks and mixer in one unit) and a new circuit board audio design. Having one unit integrated eliminates the risk of audio cables losing sound quality, and the new audio-designed circuit boards eliminate unwanted noise. In addition, refined, detailed tuning has been conducted to create punchy lows and animated mid-frequencies. As a result, you get sound that is as close as it ever could be to its original sounding source, so your audience will hear exactly what you want them to hear.
The sleek-looking, aluminium finished top-plate design of the RX3 looks professional. It also serves as a practical, sturdy and robust basis. The intuitive and familiar club-standard layout allows the user to transfer from practice to club performance with minimal disruption. The impressive touchscreen is at the centre of the unit, with smart looking jog wheels, robust performance pads and a vast array of faders, illuminated buttons and knobs, which allow for so many creative possibilities.
